Teacher Leadership Academy

The Teacher Leadership Academy aims to develop the knowledge and leadership skills of teachers who are motivated to make changes at their schools. The academy learning activities, readings, and cross-district collaboration will engage teachers as adult learners with the capacity to reform—and improve—teachers’ work, instruction, and students’ experience. Each day, Monday-Thursday, includes a whole-group session launched by a keynote speaker and followed by a hands-on activity that reflects the theme of the day to be conducted in breakout groups.  The afternoon begins with a guest panel of experts with audience Q&A and continues with an inquiry team meeting in the afternoon.  Inquiry teams will be constructed by academy directors based on participants’ current roles and interests.  All small group sessions are facilitated by UCONN faculty or advanced doctoral students.

Friday will be a half-day for the academy in which Inquiry groups present their progress and action plan for school-level implementation. Schools or districts that send teams of teachers may select a UCONN faculty member advisor to meet with their group in a private 2.5hour work session focused on a topic of their choice.  See website for faculty biographies and to request a match.
